Currently a senior at NYU's
Tisch School of the Arts, Don Pavlish has counted film and television among
his interests for many years. While in high school he interned at Cleveland's
PBS affiliate, and produced and directed a 30-second public service announcement
for a local homeless shelter that was screened at the regional Emmy awards
ceremony that same year.
His freshman year at NYU, Don wrote and directed an experimental radio piece titled Cassie: Points West that was awarded second place in the annual Tony Hawkins Award for Radio Drama. He continued to explore an interest in radio the following year by co-producing and hosting a weekly anthology series on WNYU-FM. Turning his attention to film, Don wrote and directed a 10-minute film that was shot on location in rural Ohio. Titled Cracker Jack Makes a Movie, the film has been screened at the NYU Fundamentals Festival and was voted an audience favorite at the Cleveland Off-Hollywood Film Festival. That same year, he co-wrote and directed Home Again, a comedy video short that was also selected to be screened at the NYU Fundamentals Festival. Recently Don has become actively involved in web design and other internet applications. His web sites have won such awards as Geek Site of the Day, the MDLink Best of Campus Award, and the Yahoo Cool Site of the Week, and have been featured in newspapers and magazines around the world including The Oregonian, Websight Magazine, and USA Today, as well as on BBC Radio One. This summer Don premiered a 60-minute comedy video he wrote, directed and produced titled Captain Magnesium: The Motion Picture. Held as a fund-raiser for the Ronald McDonald House of Cleveland, the premiere was followed by a live concert featuring the seven bands that appear on the movie's soundtrack. To promote the event, Don oversaw a successful publicity campaign that consisted of print, radio, television, and internet promotions. Currently Don is creating the web component of a sitcom pilot that he co-wrote and directed last year titled Sitcom 2000. In his spare time he enjoys reading about American history, politics, and media theory, and maintains an online resource guide for those interested in free speech and other civil-liberties issues.
